For bargaining Ireena's life to the Mad Celestial, his ongoing bargaining with Strahd for Ireena's soul, and his repeated attempts to trade the lives of his companions for personal gain, Aeson attracted the attention of the Dark Powers.

At the limit of their patience, they removed Aeson to his own realm in Ravenloft where he is now known as The Dark Dealer. His realm consists of a series of large marketplace, where the art of the deal is practiced daily. Cheating, undercutting, and double dealing are illegal but practiced widely.

The officials in the realm are wildly corrupt and on the take. Three thieves folks guilds vie for control. Aeson plays each against the others constantly, never allowing any one to become more powerful than the other two. In a perpetual state of detente, low level conflict in the shape of back alley assassinations and murders are a common occurrence.
