If you find any tips or have any ideas to add, please email me.  I'd be happy to post them here.

Macros

- Initiative -
This is an initiative roll macro so you don't need to open the character sheet every time you want roll.  For this to work, you need to have the character sheet filled out because it pulls data from there.  Also, you need to have your token selected first.

    @{selected|token_name} rolls a [[1d20+@{selected|initiative_bonus}&{tracker}]] for initiative!

- AFK (Away From Keyboard) -

    &{template:default} {{name=enter your name here is away from keyboard.}}

General Text Commands

- Whisper GM

/w gm 'enter text' No need for the quotes, just enter what you want to say.  Example:   /w gm WTF Rich!  Why did you kill me?

- Whisper Roll to GM

/w gmroll 'dice roll' No need for the quotes.  Example:   /w gmroll 2d10+3

Ruler Tool

The Euclidian / Pythagorean measurements are going to be the standard for Roll20.  This means when setting up an aura on your token, you'll need to subtract two (2) from the actual number in the spell or effect.  This should give a more accurate range when using the ruler tool.

Compendium (updated 12/04/2020)

Well, I broke down and gave in.  I purchased the Player's HandbookXanathar's Guide to Everything and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything on Roll20 (please check on any Tasha stuff before editing your sheet).  You should now have access to ALL the content in both of those books on Roll20.  If you don't, please let me know; I paid for it and want to make sure you can all access it!!!  I did test it and it worked with my Izek test character so it should work for you.

This means you should not need to type/copy/paste/edit spells, abilities, traits, etc.  If any of those attributes are in in the PHB or XGtE, you should be able to click the Compendium icon in the upper left (looks like an italicized ' I ' with a circle around it) and do a search.  If it's in either of those books, you should be able to just drag it to your sheet.

Not sure if this is good or bad. I say that because there is no longer any reason not to have your Roll20 character sheets updated and ready to go!

Discord (updated 5/23/2020)

I have setup a Discord server.  Everywhere I've looked and what I've heard in forums, Roll20's voice is an issue.  Supposedly, Discord is the way to go.  That being said, I created a Discord server.  I really don't know if it's going to be better, worse, or same, but at least we'll all have another option.

I suggest everyone create an account, sign-up, do whatever and have a Discord account handy if we encounter issues with Roll20.

This is the RoletheBones server link:  https://discord.gg/Eq2YT6

I am still working through it so I don't know how much help I can be, but in my basic testing, it was pretty straight forward.

Lighting (updated 2/20/2021)

At least one-half of  whatever creature/companion must be seen from your characters perspective for it to be targeted by any spell or action.

Please keep in mind that other players view is probably different from your own.  They may be able to see you, but you may not be able to see them and vice versa.  This is by design so you will be seeing what your character would see.  This also means you may want to be cautious about moving.  If your character moves into a darkened area and sees a threat, they may not be able to move back.  Understandably this could seem frustrating, but it's by design and makes it more immersive.

A pale yellow dot shows your character has a light source that everyone can see.  In addition to the pale yellow dot showing viewable light, a pink dot means the light is magical.  A brown dot (again with the pale yellow) means it's non-magical (torch, candle, lantern, etc.)

PLEASE feel free to remind me of this!!!  It sounds good and makes sense, but when I'm in the throes of managing the other stuff, I'll probably forget!!!
