Gleam, although overjoyed by the group’s victory over Strahd and the evil in the land of Barovia, was bitterly disappointed that she wasn't able to contribute to the final downfall of Strahd. Because of one stupid step to the side to avoid danger, she had been taken out of the main action. Because of her caution, she inadvertently had taken herself out of the fight. She felt like she personally failed to do her duty to vanquish the great evil in the Barovia. She returned to her order to report that a great evil had been destroyed, but also to confess her inability to participate in the final blow. Although the knights of her order were very understanding and celebrated the downfall of Strahd, Gleam was more critical of herself and felt like she had failed in some way. She felt much stronger from her travails in the land of Barovia and wanted to test her mettle against the greatest evils in the land. She vowed to undertake the most challenging missions that the order had. She became somewhat reckless in her pursuit of evil, caring little for her personal safety. She was so incautious that the head of her order took her aside and spoke to her about this. Disregarding his advice, Gleam continued in her relentless pursuit of evil and danger, until, one day, her recklessness caused the death of one of her fellow knights. Gleam was devastated and retreated to silent contemplation and then visited the Temple of Tamara to pray for forgiveness. The goddess visited her in a vision one night and in her presence, Gleam found the strength to forgive herself. She decided that the justice of Tyr was too harsh. She forsook the worship of Tyr and changed her worship to Tamara and tempered her justice with mercy. This whole experience profoundly changed Gleam's outlook. She returned to her initial cautiousness and watched out for her companions more than herself. She wasn't quite so driven to stamp out all evil and spent more of her time just helping out those in need. She remained a knight of The Order of Illuminating Light but she spent more time teaching and less time stamping out evil. She continued to hone her sorcerous powers and taught other budding sorcerers, but she also took particular interest in hunting down and destroying evil sorcerers because she thought they were perverting of the gift of sorcery. |
